Dear Clients and Friends,
On December 01, 2022, the National Minimum Wage Commission unanimously agreed to a 20% increase in the minimum wage in Mexico for the year 2023, which will be effective as of January 1 of next year.
Such increase will be as follows; the General Minimum Wage will increase from $172.87 (2022) per day to $207.44 (2023) and in the Northern Border Free Zone it will increase from $260.34 per day to $312.41, as described below:
2022 | 2023 | |
General Minimum Wage | $172.87 | $207.44 |
Northern Border Free Zone | $260.34 | $312.41 |
the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, points out that this increase benefits 6.4 million workers, and will give dynamism to the local economy and the domestic market, since it not only supports the workers, but also their families. And that both the labor sector and the business sector have assumed the commitment that we can reach 100% recovery by the end of the Federal Government’s administration, and leave behind a policy of sustained contention that led the country to be one of the countries with the lowest salaries in the world.
This increase also applies to the professional minimum. This increase to the minimum wage will be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation and will be mandatory as of January 1, 2023.
