Chihuahua, Chih., December 20th, 2018.
Dear Clients and Friends,
For the first time since 1995, the General Minimum Wage (SMG) reaches the Well-being Limit, determined by the National Committee for the Evaluation of Social Development Policies (Coneval), based on a tripartite and unanimous decision of the National Minimum Wage Representatives Committee (Conasami).
As a result of said resolution, the SMG as of January 1st 2019 will be a daily wage of $102.68 Mexican pesos. This amount was determined based on the current SMG of $88.36 daily Mexican pesos, plus a nominal increase, through the Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $9.43 daily pesos, and considering a percentage adjustment (linked to the inflation) of 5.00%.
It should be noted, that Conasami decided to create a new Economic Wage Zone composed by the municipalities located 25 kilometers next to the northern border and some municipalities surrounding them, and established a “Border SMG”.
Consami decided to stop considering a sole Economic Wage Zone for the country; thereof, the Border SMG as of January 1st 2019 will be $176.72 daily pesos.
According to Conasami, the increase on the Free Zone on the Northern Border has the objective to boost the competitiveness compared to the United States of America.
In total, there will be 43 municipalities of the states of Baja California Norte (5), Sonora (11), Chihuahua (8), Coahuila (8), Nuevo León (1) y Tamaulipas (10) on which the minimum daily wage will be $176.72 pesos.
Conasami stated that the following will be the municipalities that will obtain a 100% increase on their daily wage:
Chihuahua: Janos, Ascensión, Juárez, Praxedis G. Guerrero, Guadalupe, Coyame del Sotol, Ojinaga y Manuel Benavides.
