Chihuahua, Chih., June 20, 2025
Dear Clients, Friends and Partners:
This bulletin is intended to inform you of the entry into force, as of today, of the recent amendment to the Federal Labor Law known as the “Ley Silla” (Chair Law).
Key aspects to consider:
- Right to Sit While Working: An obligation has been added for employers to allow workers to rest while seated during their workday, particularly in positions or tasks that do not require standing at all times.
- Immediate Obligations for Employers:
- The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) has 30 calendar days (starting June 17) to issue complementary regulations regarding occupational risk factors associated with this measure.
- Employers and companies will have 180 calendar days to update their internal labor regulations and workplace policies to comply with the new provisions established in Section V of Article 132 of the Federal Labor Law. This deadline is approximately mid-December 2025.
Recommendation:
We strongly recommend that you begin reviewing and adjusting your company’s internal policies and workplace conditions (e.g., appropriate seating, rest areas, etc.) to ensure compliance with the new regulations and avoid potential sanctions.
Please feel free to reach out should you require assistance with the legal and practical implementation of this reform in your workplace.
Sincerely,
Lic. Jesús Israel Perales Piña
