On January 9, 2023, the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI) issued the press release No. 10/23, by means of which the values of the “UMA” were disclosed, said values will become effective as of February 1, 2023 and are defined as follows:
- Daily: $103.74, Mexican pesos.
- Monthly: $3,153.70, Mexican pesos.
- Annual: $37,844.40 Mexican pesos.
- The variation of the UMA in 2023, as compared to 2022, corresponds to 7.82%.
UMA refers to the unit of measure, index, base, metric or economic reference in Mexican pesos used to determine the amount for the payment of obligations, and it is referenced in federal and state laws, as well as in other legal provisions that arise from said regulations.
Pursuant to the Second Transitory Article of the Decree which amends and adds various provisions to the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States related to the de-indexation of the minimum wage, UMAs be updated on an annual basis.
FORMULA TO CALCULATE THE UMA.
The value of the “UMA” of the immediately preceding year must be multiplied by the result of the sum of one plus the interannual percentage growth of December of the immediately preceding year of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC).
The calculation of the value of the “UMA” is a task assigned to INEGI and its basis is Article 26, paragraph B, second to last paragraph, of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States; the Second Transitory Article of the Decree that amends and adds various provisions to the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States regarding the de-indexation of the minimum wage, in addition to the Article 23, section XX Bis, of the Internal Regulations of INEGI.
GENERAL MINIMUM WAGE – daily – as of January 01, 2023. (Free Zone of the Northern Border $312.41, pesos); (Rest of the Country $207.44, pesos).
“UMA” daily: $103.74, pesos and will be effective as of February 01, 2023.
